I’ve been looking at Man Ray’s photographs and sculptures, where I noticed that he had sometimes subjectified objects and other times objectified subjects. His metronome with an eye reminds me of the fragmented ancient Egyptian eyes I came across at the Louvre a while back. Medieval thick leather parchments with musical notes engraved into them, which I had encountered in Bologna, triggered an image of Dada’s Merz magazines. So, I’ve been trying to visualise these associations. Onto parchments, I attempted to translate some Merz fake advertisements and nonsensical sound poems into Arabic.
The translation of the Dada Merz fake advertisement led me to follow through and translate and transliterate various other poems and texts by Dadaists from Merz Magazines, Bulletin D. and Integral.
